The Swiss parliament has shelved proposed changes to the Lex Koller (a long-standing federal law restricting foreign purchases of Swiss real estate) after warnings that tightening the rules could cost pension funds and private investors billions of francs. The National Council had backed a motion to reverse earlier relaxations of the law, including restricting foreign investors from buying shares in listed Swiss real estate companies and funds — a move critics warned could force those vehicles to delist from the SIX Swiss Exchange, wiping out an estimated 25–26 billion francs in premium valuations. A government-commissioned study by consultancy Fahrländer Partner concluded the measures would do nothing to ease Switzerland's housing market and could actually worsen it by cutting off capital for major residential development projects.
