Chad's military has accused Sudanese armed forces of violating its sovereignty after drones and aircraft bombed vehicle convoys across roughly 100 kilometres of Chadian territory on the evening of 20 August. The targeted columns, comprising more than a dozen vehicles that had set out from Libya, were struck as they retreated toward Erdi Ma, a remote desert plateau in northeastern Chad near the triple border with Sudan and Libya. Chadian authorities reported no casualties on their side, but researcher Remadji Hoinathy said the area is rife with armed groups and that the convoys most likely carried fighters of mixed Chadian, Libyan, and Sudanese origin heading to reinforce the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) — the paramilitary faction locked in a civil war against Sudan's regular army — marking what he described as an unprecedented incursion in scale that raises fresh questions about Chad's stance in the Sudanese conflict.
