Zimbabwe sent its first blueberry shipment to China in July following a phytosanitary agreement and Beijing's removal of tariffs on imports from 53 African countries, opening a significant new market for the southern African nation's growers. Producers such as Forrester Estates, located north of Harare, are eager to scale up planting to meet Chinese demand, but face steep expansion costs of $50,000–$55,000 per hectare and limited access to affordable financing. Zimbabwe is Africa's third-largest blueberry producer and expects to export around 12,000 tonnes this year, with industry leaders calling on the government to provide competitive export financing and tax incentives to help farmers capitalise on what could be a transformative trade opportunity.
