Max Verstappen was denied a competitive result in a warm-up race at Germany's Nürburgring (home to the famous Nordschleife circuit and next month's gruelling 24-hour endurance race) after his Mercedes-AMG GT3 suffered front-end damage with around two and a half hours remaining. Verstappen had worked his way up from fifth to second place and had overtaken rival Christopher Haase before being forced into the pits, though he said he could not explain the damage as he had not made contact with any other car. The Dutchman had entered the race to build experience ahead of June's 24-hour event, taking advantage of a free weekend after the Saudi Arabian Formula 1 Grand Prix was cancelled.
