Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has announced that University Road in Karachi (Pakistan's largest city and main commercial hub) will be made "100 per cent motorable" by 15 September, as part of ongoing construction work on the Bus Rapid Transit Red Line project. Speaking at the construction site, Memon said road carpeting had already been completed at several locations and that work on bridges and other sections of the BRT network was advancing rapidly. The announcement is significant for commuters in a city long plagued by traffic congestion and infrastructure delays, with the government also reporting that 500 electric buses have been ordered and are expected to enter service soon.
