Five Kenyan security officers have been killed after their patrol vehicle struck a roadside bomb in Mandera County (a remote region in northeastern Kenya bordering Somalia), with militants opening fire on the convoy moments after the blast. The victims — four members of Kenya's elite Special Operations Group and a National Police Reservist — were on a routine patrol along the Alungu Main Supply Route near El-Raamo when the improvised explosive device destroyed their vehicle. No group has claimed responsibility, but authorities suspect Al-Shabaab, the Somalia-based militant organisation behind numerous cross-border raids in the area, and have launched a manhunt after the attackers fled toward the Somali border.
