The UN Security Council unanimously extended the arms embargo on Sudan's Darfur region until December 11, but could not agree on a US proposal to widen it to the whole country after permanent members Russia and China objected. The council also extended the mandate of the panel of experts monitoring the sanctions, imposed in 2005, to January 11, 2027. The war between Sudan's army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which began in April 2023, has killed at least 59,000 people, displaced about 13 million and pushed parts of the country into famine. Note: the source covers the UN sanctions decision and does not mention a Sudanese government bill limiting humanitarian access.
