Sports betting provider betPawa has released a full year of verified data from its Locker Room Bonus programme, showing more than $1.67 million paid out to athletes across Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Malawi, and Cameroon. The scheme uses mobile-money technology to pay winning players and technical staff instantly after matches — often before they have left the dressing room — and has completed over 47,000 individual disbursements to around 7,000 players across 387 teams. A notable feature of the programme is structural equal pay: women's league players receive identical per-win bonuses to their male counterparts, as seen in Ghana where the Malta Guinness Women's Premier League and the men's Premier League are paid at the same rate. BetPawa says it plans to expand the model to additional markets and sports, and has already added the Kenya Volleyball Federation to the programme.
