A Ukrainian court has sentenced Colonel Dmytro Kozyura, former chief of staff of Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) anti-terrorism centre, to life imprisonment for high treason after he was found guilty of spying for Russia's FSB intelligence agency. Prosecutors say Kozyura was recruited by the FSB in Vienna in 2018 and, from late 2024, used a Kyiv safehouse with a separate phone and router to pass classified information to Russian handlers — including details of military deployments, weapons systems, and the impact of Russian strikes on soldiers and civilians. The case highlights the ongoing threat of Russian infiltration within Ukraine's security apparatus, with the SBU noting it had managed to feed Kozyura disinformation before his arrest in February 2025, limiting the damage to national security.
