Dutch marathon runner Abdi Nageeye will race Monday's Boston Marathon (one of the world's six Abbott World Marathon Majors, held annually on Patriots' Day in Massachusetts) using a deliberate go-it-alone approach, running at a steadier pace than the lead pack before targeting rivals in the race's gruelling final hills. The 37-year-old has been managing a persistent hamstring injury since August, including a DNF at November's New York Marathon, but says three solid training weeks have given him enough confidence to aim for the podium — though he concedes that defending champion and Kenyan favourite John Korir is likely out of reach for the win. Looking further ahead, Nageeye also says his renewed, lower-intensity training approach has rekindled ambitions of competing at a fourth Olympic marathon in Los Angeles in 2028.
