The US House of Representatives narrowly rejected a resolution on Thursday requiring President Donald Trump to withdraw American forces from the ongoing war with Iran unless Congress formally authorises military action, voting 213–214. The defeat came one day after a similar measure failed in the Senate, with Republicans in both chambers largely backing the president's conduct of the conflict, which began when the US and Israel struck Iran on 28 February. Democrats, who overwhelmingly supported the measure, warned that the 60-day deadline under the War Powers Act of 1973 — which requires Congressional authorisation or a declaration of war — is set to expire at the end of April, and vowed to bring further war powers votes in the coming weeks.
