Spain secured a place at the Billie Jean King Cup (the top international team competition in women's tennis) Finals with a 3-1 victory over Slovenia in Portorož, Slovenia, powered by a standout performance from 20-year-old debutant Kaitlin Quevedo and a doubles win by veterans Sara Sorribes and Aliona Bolsova. Quevedo, a Florida-born player of American and Spanish heritage who adopted Spanish nationality in 2024, won her singles match 7-6, 6-2, while Sorribes — returning after overcoming depression — and Bolsova, who is set to retire later this month, combined for a 6-4, 6-3 doubles victory. Spain will now compete at the Finals in Shenzhen, China, from 22–27 September, joining Italy, Great Britain, Australia, Ukraine, Poland, Kazakhstan, Czech Republic, and Belgium — the latter notably eliminating record 18-time champions the United States.
