Dutch motocross rider Jeffrey Herlings has claimed his third MXGP (the top class of the FIM Motocross World Championship) world title after winning both race heats at a circuit in Afyon, central Turkey, at over 1,000 metres altitude. The 31-year-old secured the championship in the first heat alone, needing only to finish ahead of his closest rival Romain Febvre, who ultimately crossed the line third — more than 18 seconds behind. Herlings, who also won the MXGP title in 2018 and 2021 and holds three additional world titles in the lower MX2 class, said he had slept just three hours the night before due to nerves, but expressed relief at wrapping up the championship with his new team in their debut season together.
