The Philippine Sports Commission and Philippine Olympic Committee have announced seven new inductees to the Philippine Sports Hall of Fame (an honor established in 1999 to recognize outstanding Filipino sporting achievement), led by basketball legend Ramon Fernandez and Olympic boxing silver medalist Mansueto "Onyok" Velasco. The group also includes taekwondo and gymnastics star Beatriz Lucero-Lhuillier, tennis player Cecil Mamiit, para powerlifting pioneer Adeline Dumapong-Ancheta, sprinter Isidro del Prado, and the late multi-sport athlete Eduardo Pacheco. The inductees will be honored at a ceremony at Malacañang (the Philippine presidential palace) on May 20, each receiving a trophy and 500,000 pesos, bringing the total number of Hall of Famers to 54.
