Germany's Defence Minister unveiled the country's new military strategy on 22 April, formally identifying Russia as the nation's principal security threat. The plan envisions expanding the armed forces to 460,000 active soldiers alongside hundreds of thousands of reservists, with Germany positioned as a key logistical hub in central Europe in the event of a conflict to the east. Notably, Berlin announced plans to acquire long-range American missiles with a reach of 1,000 km — double that of its existing Taurus missiles — to be fitted on future F-35 jets, signalling a broader shift away from procurement targets toward capability-based defence goals, with artificial intelligence playing an increasing role.
